FAQ

Masticating juicers adre juicers that are made to mimic the chewing of the human mouth so ingredients are crushed and squeezed at a slow rate.

Masticating juicer can tackle every fruit, vegetable or leafy green without a problem. And on the flip side, a centrifugal juicer would never be able to juice wheatgrass. Learn more about their differences here.

1. Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer

1. Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer

Ranked #1 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 3,451 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Includes features like pasta nozzle and mincer
  • Dual-stage juicing process gives you more juice
  • Juice can be stored up to 72 hours
  • Runs at 80 revolutions per minute
  • It can process wide variety of fruits and vegetables, including nuts and beans
  • 15 year warranty

Cons:

  • Small chute demands breaking bigger fruits and vegetables
  • Juicing screen can break after some time
  • Slower compared to average juicer

Editor’s Review:

Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juices is a powerful juicer, capable of extracting juice with 76,8% efficiency, which is more than most of the juicers on the market.

This percentage of efficiency is possible due to a dual-stage juicing system that is driven by a motor equipped with an equivalent to two horsepower.

The dual-stage process is designed to mimic the chewing of the human mouth. In fist stage, fruits and vegetables are crushed by the GE Ultem Auger, which is eight times stronger than most plastic and able to extract juice even from wheatgrass and kale, and from some root vegetables like a carrot. Then, in the second stage, this powerful juicer squeezes the pulp before ejecting it, and by doing so, more juice is being extracted, and the pulp is as dry as it can get.

Omega J8006 operates at 80 revolutions per minute, and this slow speed does increase the time spend on juicing. However, by slow juicing, all the nutrients and natural enzymes in the fruits and vegetables are being preserved, and the foaming is held to a minimum when compared to other masticating juicers.

Lack of foam means that there is very little or none oxidation, and that lets you store your juice up to 72 hours without degradation.

Juicing is not the only option when it comes to Omega J8006. This versatile model also serves as a food processor. It also features attachment for extruding your own pasta, and a mincer for homemade nut butter, soymilk, and baby foods. You can also grind your coffee and fresh spices.

Omega J8006 can be disassembled in four plastic parts that can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

There are some downsides to Omega J8006, it features a small chute, only 1.5 inches, and that means that you’ll have to chop down bigger fruits and vegetables.

Also, customers have reported that after some time of usage, the juicing screen breaks. However, you shouldn’t worry about that, because Omega J8006 comes with a 15 year warranty.

Nothing is perfect, but Omega J8006 comes really close to perfection.

2. SKG New Generation Wide Chute Anti-Oxidation Slow Masticating Juicer

2. SKG New Generation Wide Chute Anti-Oxidation Slow Masticating Juicer

Ranked #2 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 373 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Wide chute mouth allows you to put in big chunks of fruits and vegetables
  • Juicer operates at slow speed of 60 revolutions per minute
  • There is a 2 year warranty and a 10 year limited warranty on a product
  • Made out of high-quality, durable materials

Cons:

  • Produce with more fibre needs more cutting
  • Very heavy
  • Shuts down often
  • Not good if you don't like pulp
  • There is no option for grinding coffee or making pasta

Editor’s Review:

At three inches wide mouth chute, which is larger than most masticating juicers, SKG juicer will save you a lot of time on prep work, and that is always a good thing. No more slicing up the ingredients, now you can put them in the juicer as they are, except when you’re juicing hard roots like ginger. This type of produce you must slice up because it can break the juicer.

Larger chute also prevents clogging. But, if it comes to clogging, SKG Juicer has a reverse rotation button (REV Button), and that helps a lot with the unclogging.

This low speed juicer operates at 60 revolutions per minute, which results in minimal oxidation and more natural flavor. When compared with centrifugal juicers, SKG Juicer yields juice which is fresher and tastier, lasts longer, and has much more nutrients. The pulp is automatically separated from the juice, but some parts of the pulp might get into the juice. Besides juicing, with SKG Juicer you can make tofu and sorbet.

Featured in the SKG Juicer is an overload system, and that system shuts down the motor for an hour if it overheats, or if the power source is unstable.

SKG Juicer is made out of high-quality, TRITAN food grade anti-oxidation stainless steel and silicone components, which are BPA Free. These components are easy to clean, but it is not recommended to put them in the dishwasher, as they can get damaged.

This is an FDA approved product, also certified by the CE and ETL, and that means that the SKG Juicer is compliant with both European and North American safety standards. Additionally, ROHS certification means that this machine is lead-free.

Weighing around 25 pounds, this particular juicer is pretty heavy, but with that weight comes and durability. SKG Juicer is accompanied with two year full warranty and a ten year limited warranty for the motor.

As for the negatives, weight makes it really had to move around, and the overload system works against you – users complained about it shutting down mid juicing. Also, customers were dissatisfied because there was a lot of chunks and pulp in the juice.

3. Breville BJS600XL Fountain Crush Masticating Juicer

3. Breville BJS600XL Fountain Crush Masticating Juicer

Ranked #3 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 483 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Amazingly quiet motor
  • Auto Purifying makes cleaning easy
  • Reverse direction control helps with unclogging
  • Slow speed at 80 RPM
  • 1 year warranty, 10 years warranty on the motor

Cons:

  • Cleaning take at least 30 minutes
  • Customers complained about juicer clogging too often
  • Non-replicable parts
  • Demands prep work
  • No option for making pasta or nut butter

Editor’s Review:

Breville BJS600XL is one of the quietest juicers on the market, you will be amazed how quiet it is. Lack of noise doesn’t mean that motor had to suffer, Breville BJS600XL is equipped with a powerful 240-watt motor that operates at 80 revolutions per minute.

This slow speed ensures to get most nutrients and fibers out of your vegetables and fruits. Breville Fountain Crush excels at juicing everything, from leafy greens to berries and wheatgrass, and even hard produce like apples, carrots, and ginger. The pulp is automatically separated into a pulp container, and it comes out surprisingly dry.

On Fountain Crush is a stopper in juice ejection tube. With this stopper, you can prevent early oxidation, and you can keep the juice stored in juice mug, no need for letting it flow into a juice mug.

Breville Fountain Crush is a vertical juicer, made so to take up as little as possible space on the counter. Also, the design of the juicer makes it easy to remove the juicing jug and the pulp container.

This amazing juicer is packed with features. There is a safe start system that doesn’t allow you to start the juice if all parts are not locked in. Then we have an overload protection system, which automatically stops the juicer from juicing if there is too much load. And lastly, we have reverse direction control. This control comes in handy if something gets stuck in the juicer.

Fountain Crush is not dishwasher safe, but that doesn’t mean it is not easy to clean. This juicer comes equipped with its own cleaning brush for removing the pulp from the mesh basket, and the brush handle is perfectly sized for cleaning the pulp chute of the juicer. There is no need for disassembling, with Auto Purifying you just have to pour a cup of water into the feeding chute, turn on the motor and let the juicer clean itself.

Breville gives you one year warranty, and that is a pretty short time. However, on the motor – the most expensive part of the juicer – you get a ten year warranty.

The bad side. If you break some parts of the Breville Fountain Crush, you cannot replace them, because there is no option for that. For example, if you break the juicing jug you will have to buy a new masticating juicer. If you’re interested in a masticating juicer that can make nut butter or pasta, Breville Fountain Crush is not the juicer for you. Also, prep work takes some time. Like with most masticating juicers, you will have to cut up the fruits and vegetables as instructed, or the juicer won’t start.

4. Tribestar Slowstar Vertical Slow Juicer and Mincer

4. Tribestar Slowstar Vertical Slow Juicer and Mincer

Ranked #4 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 307 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Dry pulp
  • High yield of juice
  • BPA free housing and casting
  • There is a mincer attachment for making nut butter, sauces and sorbets
  • 10 year warranty

Cons:

  • It is a little bit harder to clean, when compared to other masticating juicers
  • A bit pricier
  • Not good at self-feeding
  • Slow speed motor adds more foam in the juice

Editor’s Review:

One addition to your kitchen that is a must have is Tribestar Slow Juicer, maybe the slowest masticating juicer, operating at 47 revolutions per minute. This slow speed keeps all the nutrients, vitamins and enzymes in your juice, and it prevents oxidation. Minimal oxidation means that you can store your juice up to 72 hours. But keep it tightly closed.

Tribestar Slowstar has a powerful 200 watt motor that is capable of crushing hard produce like carrot, beet, and other hard root vegetables. Another thing worth mentioning is a 3 stage speed reduction gear, which prevents jamming, unnecessary delays and reduces overall stress on the juicer.

Featured in Tribestar Slowstar is a Duoblade double-edged auger, made out of Ultem, which is eight times stronger than the plastic used to make other masticating juicers. This Duoblade auger crushes and cuts your fruits and vegetables, speeding up the juicing process while yielding more juice. Because of the Duoblade prep work is kept to a minimum, but fibrous greens must be pre-cut, or you’ll end up with a juice full of the pulp.

This is a versatile machine, it’s not only a juicer. Included in the box, is a mincer attachment, which allows you to make healthy sauces, sorbets, and nut butter. There is a juice cap that prevents dripping and leaks when you’re changing juice containers.

Tribestar Slowstar is made out of high quality materials, which are stain resistant. This juicers housing and the casing is 100% free from harmful BPA chemicals.

Cleaning will take some time because you are not allowed to clean it in the dishwasher. The best way to clean Tribestar Slowstar is by adding a cup of water and running the motor for some time, while the juice cap is closed. You can disassemble other parts and clean them by hand under a warm running water.

There is another point that can tell you how much manufacturer trusts in the quality of this model, and that is the warranty. Warranty for this model is ten years.

Downsides of Tribestar Slowstar. Duoblade system is great for yielding more juice, but it does not excel at self-feeding as single blade augers do. This means that you will have to push the fruits and vegetables down the chute with a pusher. Also, the slow speed motor adds more foam in the juice, and Slowstar is harder to clean than other masticating juicers.

5. Kuvings NJE-3580U Masticating Slow Juicer

5. Kuvings NJE-3580U Masticating Slow Juicer

Ranked #5 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 145 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Available food processing with seven different nozzles
  • Easy to assemble and dissasemble
  • Low speed at 80 RPM
  • Process of juicing is fast due to auto feeding design
  • Affordable
  • No need for pre-cutting leafy greens like wheatgrass

Cons:

  • Prep work is a must when it comes to bigger fruits and vegetables due to a small feed chute
  • Small juice cup (only 600 ml)
  • Users complained about wet pulp

Editor’s Review:

One of the most affordable masticating juicers on the market, Kuvings NJE3580U is a versatile machine that will help you live a healthier life.

Kuvings NJE-3580U has a 170 watt motor that operates at 80 revolutions per minute and provides a high yield of juice with very dry pulp. At low speed of juice extraction, oxidation is minimal, and because of that, all the enzymes, nutrients and vitamins are being preserved. The motor is powerful enough to juice out hard root vegetables, but Kuvings is extremely good for leafy greens like wheatgrass and kale.

Kuvings features small feed chute, only 1.5 inches, and that means that there is needed some preparation work, as big chunks of fruits and vegetables won’t fit.

But juicing is not the only capability of Kuvings, this is a multi-purpose machine. With one juice nozzle comes six more nozzles for different functions like grinding, mincing, extruding pasta. There is even included rice cake nozzle. You can even juice frozen fruits to get that smoothie texture.

You are able to juice continuously up to 30 minutes, because of the pulp ejection system that separates the pulp automatically into a different container.

If it comes to clogging there is a Direction Control Power Switch, reverse switch pushes up the produce, and forward switch pulls down the produce.

One of the special features of the Kuvings NJE-3580U is the auger design that enables improved auto-feeding, by pulling produce more effectively.

Cleaning Kuvings NJE-3580U is a breeze. Disassembling is easy, and cleaning time takes maybe five to ten minutes, since the juicer has a small screen and has a narrow auger. However, the parts are not dishwasher friendly. Included in a package is a cleaning brush, and that always helps.

Kuvings NJE-3580U comes with a five year warranty, and that can give you some security.

Some customers complained that Kuvings NJE-3580U doesn’t perform well when it comes to soft fruits. Others said that the pulp was too wet, and that juices amount were unsatisfactory

6. Hurom Elite Slow Juicer HH-SBB11

6. Hurom Elite Slow Juicer HH-SBB11

Ranked #6 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 92 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Slow speed at 43 RPM
  • You can store juice up to 72 hours if closed properly
  • Auto-pulp lever
  • BPA free plastic parts
  • You can process wheatgrass efficiently
  • Assembling and disassembling is simple and easy

Cons:

  • Parts are not dishwasher safe
  • Plastic parts are not durable
  • Demands prep work, because of the small feeding chute
  • Slower than average juicer

Editor’s Review:

Vertically designed, Hurom Elite Slow Juicer takes up little counter space, and gives your kitchen a new, beautiful look.

Quiet 150 watt motor operates at incredible 43 revolutions per minute. Equipped with a twin-winged auger and new Slow Squeezing Technology, Hurom Elite extracts 35% more juice from your ingredients, when compared to high speed juicers, and leaves less and dry pulp.

Slow Squeezing Technology is patented by Huram, and works its way by gently squeezing produce. With that gentle squeeze, nutrients and the natural taste is being preserved, even live enzymes and heat sensitive Vitamins C and A stay in your juice.

With Hurom Elite Slow Juicer you can process everything from soft and hard fruits, vegetables, wheatgrass, nuts, soy and leafy greens. With that much options, you can make anything that comes to mind, baby foods, soy milk, nut butter, sauces, marinades, and any type of juice. Auto-pulp feature separates the pulp into its container, and juices that are coming out are free of pulpy chunks.

If you want to keep the juice in the machine and prevent oxidation, there is a stopper (Auto-Pulp lever) that will allow you doing so. You can open Auto-Pulp lever for easy cleaning at the sink.

Assembling and disassembling is simple and easy, every part of this machine is made to be user friendly. To avoid staining, they have made black silicone parts, and now you can use the hopper in two positions.

Hurom Elite Juicer features safety lock system, which will not allow you to start the motor until all parts are locked into place.

In the Hurom package, you will get large Tritan magnetic safety bowl with measuring scale, juice and pulp containers, carrying handle, two cleaning brushes, and two Ultem strainers, one fine, and other coarse. Also, as a big plus, you will get a great recipe cook book.

Cleaning is easy. All parts are simplified, and the brushes help out a lot when you disassemble the machine and clean it thoroughly in the sink. There is also a self-cleaning mechanism, for easy cleaning between juicing, just pour some water into a juicing container and run the motor.

You will get two year warranty for the parts of the Hurom Elite, and a ten year warranty on the motor, which is the most expensive part.

Even though some plastic parts are BPA free, this plastic is not durable as you would wish it to be. So be on the lookout for mischievous kids, if some parts break you won’t be able to replace them. Another downside to this machine, customers have complained about prep work. You will have to cut up the bigger chunks of fruits and vegetables, or your juice will be full of pulp.

How to Choose the Best Masticating Juicer - Buyer's Guide

Masticating juicer is an expensive machine. Even those considered as low budgeted juicers have a price tag over $150.

Don’t get me wrong, they are worth the money. However, before deciding on a masticating juicer you need to consider a number of things, and then make a decision. Here are some of the most important things to consider before buying a masticating juicer:

9 Important Factors to Consider Before Buying a Juicer

1. Speed

When it comes to juicers, the slower the better. Masticating juicers usually have speed varying from around 50 rpm to 80 rpm.

This is one of the ways you can differentiate masticating juicers from centrifugal juicers. Centrifugal juicers have more revolutions per minute. Why is slower better? Well, because at slow speed there is very little chance of heating, foaming and oxidation.

Oxidation and heating destroy healthy nutrients and live enzymes like Vitamin A and Vitamin C, and when oxidation is involved shelf life of the juice is much shorter. Lower speed also means that juicing will take longer, but that will keep all the healthy nutrients in your juice, so have some patience.

2. The Size of the Feeding Chute

This can be a way to estimate how much time you’ll spend on prep work. Bigger feed chute means that there is very little preparation time needed, but that’s not always the case. Even with bigger chute, you will have to cut up all fibrous greens or they won’t get processed. On the other side, smaller chute demands a lot slicing and preparing the bigger chunks of the produce.

3. Easy Pulp Ejection

Most masticating juicers have auto-ejection feature. Some masticating juicers have it inside the machine, others have external containers for the pulp. I would always recommend the external container, it is much easier to clean, and you don’t have to stop mid-juicing in order to empty container full of pulp.

4. Reverse Button

Centrifugal juicers do not clog as much as masticating juicers do. Having a reverse button is always a plus, it will save you a lot of time when the clogging happens.

5. Ease of Use:

If you have to spend crazy amount of time on assembling, disassembling and cleaning masticating juicer, it is most likely that the juicer will end up in some counter, completely forgotten. So, try to find something that is user friendly and easy to clean. However, you need to know that the fewer parts masticating juicer has, means less options for food processing.

6. How Often will You Use It

Some masticating juicers are known for overheating if used for a long period of time in one sitting. If it comes to overheating, every masticating juicer has a safety system that will shut down the machine until it cools of. If you want to escape unknowing shut downs you should invest a little bit more money into a masticating juicer.

7. Size:

Masticating juicers come in different sizes, but they have only two designs, vertical and horizontal. Horizontal juicers take more space, they are heavier, and they need more time to process produce. It sounds bad, but it isn’t. As we already mentioned slower processing means more nutrients, and bigger, horizontal masticating juicers almost always come with attachments for food processing. Vertical masticating juicers are not packed with features, but they take up smaller counter space, and they are faster at juicing.

8. Weight

Weight is a good indicator of the materials used to make the masticating juicer. Heavier materials mean higher quality, and better durability. The most durable masticating juicer would have to be heavy, horizontally designed, and made out of stainless steel.

9. Warranty

The one thing that can tell you how good is a masticating juicer, is its warranty period. The longer the warranty the better the machine. Longest warranty on our list has Omega J8006 – 15 years, and that says a lot. Other masticating juicers have limited warranty on the motor, which is great, because the motor is always the most expensive thing on the machine.

What is the Difference Between Masticating and Centrifugal Juicer?

When it comes to juicing at home, you are presented with two types of juicers, centrifugal and masticating. These are two very different options. Masticating juicer is also known as a slow juicer, whereas centrifugal is the fast juicer.

Masticating juicer can tackle every fruit, vegetable or leafy green without a problem. And on the flip side, a centrifugal juicer would never be able to juice wheatgrass.

Masticating Juicers:

They offer a larger amount of juice extracted, with more live enzymes and nutrients. How so? They are made to mimic the chewing of the human mouth, ingredients are crushed and squeezed at a slow rate. Because of this, there is less foaming, oxidation is kept to a minimum and the juice coming out is full of healthy ingredients.

Centrifugal Juicers:

Centrifugal juicer works kinda like a blender, it swirls the ingredients around a juice jug while blades cut them into small pieces. This is a very fast way to get the homemade juice, but you’ll have more pulp in the juice, and all the nutrients are lost because of too much oxidation.

The biggest difference between those two is the price. Masticating juicers are pricier than the centrifugal juicers.

If you’re interested in a juicer that will quickly do its job, you should opt for a centrifugal juicer. However, if you’re more interested in getting all the healthy ingredients from your fruits and vegetables, a masticating juicer will give you just that and more.

What People Say About Masticating Juicers:

For a long time I’ve been juicing with a centrifugal juicer, and I was satisfied with it until I found out what Omega J8006 can do for me. At first, it was hard to get used to the process of slow juicing, don’t get me wrong Omega is fast but not as fast as centrifugal juicers. It’s been about 8 months since I bought Omega J8006, and to this day I haven’t come across fruit or vegetable that cannot be processed, even coconut can be grated in this machine! Juice is always without pulp, and it tastes delicious. The pulp is separated into its own container, and it is incredibly dry, I was pleasantly surprised by that. Clean up is easy, it takes only a few minutes. This is just a perfect machine, and I am beyond happy and healthy!

Used the Omega J3006
Most masticating juicers are really expensive, and when I discovered Kuvings NJE-3580U, I was a bit skeptical because of the price point. Thank God I decided to go for it! I love my Kuvings, and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Everything I put in this juicer gets processed fully! I use it to juice wheatgrass, make pasta, sorbets, anything that comes to mind! It is a bit slower though, but it is worth the wait. The juice coming out is tasty, and it can be stored longer. The pulp goes into separated container, which is great because I use the pulp as compost for my little garden. I have been using it for about 4 months, and I don’t have anything bad to say about it. I am just sad I didn’t buy it sooner.

Conclusion

Everything comes down to your personal preferences. Now you have all the information you need to make the best decision. Ask yourself important questions.

After you find answers to these questions, you will find the best juicer for you.

If you’re wondering how would I choose, I have to say Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer. This is by far the best masticating juicer available on the market.

Healthier lifestyle is just a purchase away! Happy juicing!
