We’ve compiled a hand-picked list of top 10 nursery gliders of 2018. The list is based on our author’s objective review and combination of various opinions from users all over the world. Continue reading to see all of our nursery glider reviews:
This chair can be both stylish statement piece and a comfortable nursery glider in your newborn’s bedroom. It provides smooth and gentile, noise-free gliding and a 360-degree swivel motion. The chair also has the ability to rock, so you basically get the glider and the rocking chair in one single piece of furniture. I love how it rocks smoothly and quietly, so you won’t have to worry about waking up your child with any chair sounds.
BabylettoToco Swivel Glider is big enough to be comfortable for both parents, but not too big to take up too much of the space in the baby’s room. You can find this glider in two colors – Grey and White. The gray one is upholstered with tweed while the white one is upholstered with linen. Both materials are natural and baby friendly. Grey tweed chair would probably be your first choice because anything made in white gets dirty easily, but designers have obviously thought that through when deciding on the fabrics so they have chosen the linen for the white chair because it is a lot easier to wash than tweed.
The high quality built of this chair assures that you will be able to use it well beyond your child’s nursery years, and since the design is really modern you will be able to fit it into your living room or wherever you like in your home.
BabylettoToco Swivel Glider comes with the matching ottoman, made of the same material as the chair you purchase. It is really soft and comfortable for your feet. The only complaint I’ve ever heard about it is that it is stationary which provides a slight discomfort while you are rocking in the chair.
This product comes in only two pieces, the chair and the ottoman, which means that there is absolutely no assembling required.
The Babyletto Madison Swivel Glider provides what every new mom needs – smooth and effortless gliding motion that will calm their baby and make the uncomfortable job of breastfeeding at least a little more comfortable. One of many great things about this nursery chair is that it doesn’t only glide, it rocks too, which means that you basically get both glider and rocker chair in one piece of furniture. It also allows you to turn the chair to any side you want without leaving it, with the amazing noise free swiveling mechanism. Actually, any motion of this chair is noise free, so you won’t have to worry about waking up your child with a sound of the chair. The sitting area is spacious and comfortable enough for both parents, but the rounded back isn’t tall enough to support your head and neck.
The construction of the chair and all mechanisms are metal, which makes this chair long-lasting. You will be able to use it in your living space long beyond your baby’s nursery years thanks to its durability and modern design.
This comfy glider made of beautiful and really soft suede leather will give your baby’s nursery a modern look while the stain and water resistant upholstery will be a real relief to any mother out there. The glider comes in three different colors – Ecru, Mocha, and Slate.
The lack of ottoman can be a bit of a problem if you are sitting in the chair for a long time. However, there are a lot of ottomans and footstools in the market to pair with this chair.
Lastly, something that will make all dad’s happy, the chair comes in one piece, which means that there is no assembling required whatsoever.
This super comfy nursery glider allows you to relax to the fullest with the reclining mechanism and the track arm design. The recliner doesn’t lay flat, though, and you can’t glide while in reclining position. It comes with so many great comfort features that you won’t ever want to leave your baby’s room. The lever placement puts the whole control over the movement in your hands. The circled metal mechanism allows you not just to glide the chair back and forth, but also to rotate it in 360 degrees without having to leave it. It also features the built-in easy-pull mechanism for the leg rest which adds up to the comfort but also allows you to fully recline the unit.
The metal construction assures the durability of this unit and its contemporary design allows you to use it not just in the nursery room but in any other living space in your home. Both sitting and the back cushions are well stuffed and very thick which provides a lot of comfort but foam fill doesn’t allow you to sink into it. The sitting area is wide enough but not too wide to make the armrests too far from each other (not even for a short person). The back of the chair is high enough to support your head and neck regardless of the position of the chair.
The unit doesn’t come with an ottoman, but it doesn’t really need one since it comes with the built-in leg rest whose mechanism is within reach and really easy to pull.
The glider comes in three different colors – Light Grey, Grey, and Mocha. The light gray glider is upholstered with natural, linen fabric while gray and mocha chairs are upholstered with microfiber material. I personally prefer natural materials, such as linen, especially for a baby’s room, but if you want the chair that is stain resistant, you should probably go with one of the other two.
Baby Relax Rylan is one of the most comfortable seats you’ll ever place yourself into. It has many comfy features such as reclining mechanism and super soft foam-filled cushions that will make the nursery room your new favorite place to rest. The easy to reach reclining mechanism can be, ironically, hard to find, but that is no mistake. It is hidden on purpose, not just for a design matter, but for the matter of safety too. What you also don’t see at first glance is the padded leg rest, hidden below the sitting area that allows you to fully recline the unit. It also features the swivel function that allows you to rotate the chair within 360 degrees without having to get out of it.
The contemporary square silhouette will give your child’s nursery a modern look, or perfectly fit into your living room. The metal construction makes the chair very durable so you can definitely count on this piece of furniture in your living room after your baby’s nursery years.
The biggest downside for many consumers is the microfiber fabric used for the upholstery. This material has a tendency to grip dust which means that you would have to vacuum it every day if you put it in your baby’s room. It is also not the most natural material, and I’m not sure how baby-friendly that is. On the other hand, if scrubbing the furniture after your kids spill or smear something on it is your biggest concern, this chair might be the one for you, since microfiber is one of the stain-resistant fabrics.
Thoughtfully designed, Da Vinci Olive meets all mums’ needs. It features high back for head and neck support as well as the matching ottoman to rest the tired feet. Its perfect dimensions assure comfort for both parents while the metal construction provides smooth and gentle gliding and 360 degrees swiveling without making any noise at all. And let’s not forget about the awesome rocking mechanism that turns this single unit in both nursery glider and a rocking chair. The glider comes with a matching lumbar pillow that provides, even more, back support if needed. Its contemporary, minimal design will definitely turn your baby’s room into a stylish nursery. It comes in three colors – Cream, Dark Grey and Grey. (Quick tip: Any of those colors can be styled with a colorful pillow for the even more modern look.)
As great as this glider is, there is still something I don’t like about it. My biggest concern is the polyester upholstery. I really think it is important to have all natural materials around your baby because they don’t cause any allergies and rashes and they are usually much softer and gentler on the skin. On the other hand, some manmade materials are a lot easier to clean and most of them are stain and water resistant (like polyester) which is really alleviating for mums. So for me, this is a con, but for someone else, it might be the biggest pro.
Another concern of many users is the stationary ottoman. Apparently, it provides a slight discomfort when you are rocking in the chair because the ottoman doesn’t move along with you which is a lot more annoying than it sounds. This forces you to bend your knees at 90-degree angle in order to push off the ottoman or to keep your feet on the floor. What many mothers found helpful was using the Pilates ball instead of ottoman while rocking. I haven’t tried it but it sounds good.
Lastly, information to cheer up the dads! The glider comes in only two pieces – the chair and the ottoman, which means there is no assembly required.
This beautiful glider is a combination of classic charm and contemporary style which will lighten up any room you decide to decorate with it. Its square silhouette with arm track design combined with the button tufting on the backrest makes this unit modern yet elegant piece of furniture. The enclosed ball bearing mechanism allows you to glide and swivel the chair smoothly with no noises at all. There is also the smooth and gentle rocking mechanism for mums and babies who prefer stronger motion. The materials used for the construction are metal and wood which assures the quality and durability of this product. You will be able to use it well beyond your child’s nursery years, in the living room or any other room in the house. It will blend in right away and the whole family will be able to enjoy in its comfort.
The whole chair is upholstered with polyester fabric. As I already said, I’m not a fan of manmade materials because I think that only natural materials are baby friendly. But, don’t get me wrong, polyester won’t harm your baby.
The glider, unfortunately, doesn’t come with an ottoman or any cushions. However, there are many ottomans in the market that can be paired with this chair, creating a stylish nursery set. It comes in a modern Graphite Graycolor that can be enriched with a colorful pillow (I would recommend yellow for a modern style, or a fluffy ivory for more classic, elegant look).
Dutailier Sleigh glider looks as comfortable as it feels. It comes with a couple comfy mechanisms that will make this unit your favorite. The smooth and gentle gliding mechanism can be locked in any position that you like along with an awesome reclining mechanism that allows you to fully relax. The back is tall enough to protect your head and neck in any position and it is very soft. It comes with a matching ottoman that also has the built-in gliding mechanism so your feet can glide along while resting. The chair also rocks, as you probably assumed by its design, which allows you to choose between two types of motion.
The cushions are filled with extremely comfortable and soft foam that doesn’t allow you to sink in. They are upholstered with manmade polyester fabric (not my favorite) that can be in one of two colors – Dark Grey or Light Beige. The wooden construction can also come in either Espresso or White. Polyester fabric is really easy to wash, just make sure to use a water based cleaning agent or foam, but I would also recommend the professional furniture cleaning every once in a while because polyester tends to collect a lot of dust and the covers aren’t machine washable. The wooden elements, though, can be whipped with a damp cloth and that would be just enough.
The best word to describe the first impression you get when seeing this glider is old-fashioned, especially in dark colors. However, modern enclosed ball bearings gliding mechanism makes this unit vintage only in its design (although I don’t think that’s what the designers went for). The sitting area is very spacious and will most certainly be comfortable for either of parents, although mums will probably use it more often. The backrest is while the arms are padded for more comfortable breastfeeding. On the sides, you can find pockets which are perfect for storing pacifiers, bottles or any other kind of baby stuff you might need on the arms reach.
The glider also comes with the matching ottoman with its own gliding mechanism. It is really convenient for mums to have ottomans along with the glider, especially if it is this comfortable. The cushions on the chair and ottoman are filled with extremely soft and comfortable foam that doesn’t allow you to sink in. The upholstery, unfortunately, isn’t made of natural fabric, but polyester, which many mums love because it is really easy to clean.
The glider and ottoman are delivered in pieces, so you will have some assembly to do. But don’t worry; it takes about 15 minutes to put together both glider and ottoman.
The glider can be found in a few different colors for both wooden frame and the upholstery which allows you to customize your nursery chair a little.
If I was buying a nursery glider today, Stork Craft Tuscany wouldn’t be my first choice, unless I decided to decorate the nursery in a vintage style… in that case, it definitely would.
Here is another chair that will make your baby duties to a more comfortable level. Many customers described the feeling they get while sitting in the chair as ‘royal-like’, probably because of the richly plush padded cushions on the sitting area, back, and arms. The back is really high which provides the head and neck support and makes the glider comfortable for both tall and short people. The comfort is also improved with a really convenient matching ottoman that comes as a part of the set.
The solid authentic hardwood construction assures durability of the chair while its classic design can be easily fitted into any living area, which is convenient since you’ll be able to use this glider well beyond your baby’s nursery years. The chair features both gliding and reclining mechanisms, but you can’t glide with the reclined back. The reclining mechanism is smooth, gentle and completely silent.
The upholstery is 100% polyester, not my favorite, but really easy to clean and also stain resistant. Some parts of the upholstery actually come off so you can just put them into a washing machine. You can find pockets on each side of padding where you can put anything you might need while feeding the baby, like blankets, baby wipes, tissues…
One of my favorite characteristics of the Naomi Home Deluxe is multi-purpose use. After your child’s nursery years pass you can still use this chair in your living room, office space or as a porch glider. You can put it in the corner of your bedroom too, to create a stunning reading area.
Out of the box, the chair needs a little assembly, but it’s nothing you can’t do yourself at home and putting it together doesn’t take more than ten to fifteen minutes and it comes with all the tools you’ll need.
This glider comes with a lot of color combinations (of frame and upholstery), but on Amazon.com (as I saw) you can only find those classy color combinations like Cherry/Cream, Pecan/Sand, Sand/Espresso and all Black (although upholstery looks more gray than black).
When you first use Karbon Healthy, water coming out of it might be black because of the activated carbon. After a few seconds, water will go back to normal, and you can enjoy a glass of clean and healthy water.
Take a look at this beautifully designed plush glider, perfect to warm up your baby’s room. It looks just as comfortable as it feels. Bountifully stuffed cushions provide comfort in both sitting and back area without looking too big and taking up too much room in the nursery. The chair has both gliding and swivel mechanism that will allow you to rest and cuddle with your baby in total comfort. The 360 degrees swiveling allows you to turn the chair on any side you want without having to leave it. It also features a rocking mechanism for those of you who like stronger motion.
Delta creates all the furniture with the same idea in mind – there’s nothing more important than safety. That’s why every unit that they offer are built with long-lasting materials. Wood frame with steel glide mechanism ensures stability and durability through many years of jumping and playing long after nursery years.
The cushions are filled with polyester foam that provides comfort but it is still firm enough for you not to sink in. The whole chair is upholstered with, not my favorite but easy to clean and stain resistant, microfiber.
Unfortunately, the glider doesn’t come with a matching ottoman and it is already kind of expensive so buying a separate footrest might be too much. However, there are many affordable and comfortable alternatives for the footrest if you get a little creative.
Out of the box, the chair needs some assembly. However, it’s nothing you can’t do yourself at home and putting it together doesn’t take a lot of time. All you really have to do is attach the chair’s back to the seat base and voila! You’ve got yourself a nursery glider.
In the sea of different brands, it is really hard to choose only one nursery glider for your baby’s room. At the beginning of the search you only look for a chair that looks fancy, but later you realize that’s the least important thing because it doesn’t really matter how pretty it looks if it doesn’t work for you. Before you make a final decision you should consider some factors we mention below that will most definitely help you get exactly what you need.
This is the first and the most important thing to consider. If it isn’t comfortable, move on. This is the only thing that mustn’t be sacrificed for style. You will probably spend half of each night in this chair feeding your baby, especially during the first year. Can you imagine spending hours in an uncomfortable fancy chair? That’s what I thought. This chair will be your best friend during your child’s nursery years, so make sure to find one that you can live with.
There are two types of nursery gliders that you can choose from and those are wooden and upholstered. Based on the top ten list above you can easily assume what type I prefer, but it is really a matter of personal preference. Wooden gliders are more basic in style and features which also makes them cheaper. However, in order to make it comfortable you will still have to put some cushions on it, so why not get the upholstered one right away? Construction of upholstery gliders is usually wooden or metal but all of those hard parts are cushioned with upholstered soft foams. Another plus for these gliders is that a lot of them have a reclining mechanism that allows you to actually lay down in it.
If you thought there is no such thing as too comfortable, take a moment and imagine getting out of the chair while holding a baby and there is no way to push yourself out of it. A good nursing glider mustn’t be too soft or too big and it should allow you to easily get out of it without waking up the baby you’ve just spend too much time rocking to sleep.
Nursery gliders these days can do a lot more than just glide. They can also have reclining, swiveling and rocking mechanisms to provide a full comfort. However, they can often come with a couple of flaws so make sure to test them before making a purchase. You don’t want a glider that has squeaky mechanisms or doesn’t motion gently and smoothly.
It is also important for a glider to have some kind of footrest. This is a chair you’ll spend hours in and you’ll really need to lift your feet on something comfy. The glider can either feature a built-in leg rest with the foldable mechanism or separate matching ottoman.
If you’ve read the whole review you were probably annoyed by how many times I said I don’t like manmade materials for this kind of furniture. And I really don’t. This is a unit that will be placed in your baby’s room. Don’t you want everything to be natural around your infant? I know I would. You might think that these are only my prejudices, but manmade fabrics collect a lot more dust and mites than natural fabrics, which means they could cause allergies and rashes. It is also much more comfortable to sit on a linen chair than polyester one, especially in the summer when you’ll probably be wearing something short and you don’t want your skin to sweat on synthetic and static materials.
Why are those gliders on my list then? Well, a lot of mums don’t like scrubbing their furniture after their kids spill or smear something on it, that’s why I’ve picked some gliders with upholsteries made of easy to clean and stain resistant fabrics. So if you just vacuum them consistently, on regular basis, you won’t have to worry about a thing.
The nursery glider shouldn’t be too big or too small. What I actually mean is that it should fit nicely into a corner of your nursery, not just for aesthetic matter but practical too. As I already mentioned before, it the chair is too big, you might find it difficult to get out of it. It should allow you to get out of it with ease without waking up the baby. However, it shouldn’t be too small either. The sitting area must be big enough for you not to feel claustrophobic, but also to be able to share sleepless nights with your husband. If he can fit comfortably in the chair too you can survive the cramps and tooth growth in shifts. It is also important for the back to be tall enough to provide support for your head and neck unless you are ok with neck pain.
Lastly, I would like to mention style. With the wide range of different gliders, you can certainly find the one that meets all your needs and can still fit in your décor. Gliders come in so many different styles from modern, minimal to classy and vintage. There are even some gliders that you can customize through color combinations or combination of the chair and the ottoman.
When setting up the nursery for your child you can easily lose focus and crowd it with a lot of cute but unnecessary stuff while forgetting about some really important pieces of furniture like nursery chairs. If you leave that purchase for the last moment you’ll probably buy something that looks comfortable and regret it later. This piece of furniture will be essential for you, as the mother, especially during the first year while the baby wakes up often in the night due to cramps and tooth growth, but most importantly for breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is really uncomfortable itself, but imagine that discomfort combined with sitting on the uncomfortable chair… it would be hell. My advice is to go from store to store and sit in each chair you like until you find the perfect one.
Now, there are two types of nursery chairs – nursery gliders and rocking chairs. The differences are pretty small and choosing between them comes to your personal preference, but let’s take a look anyway:
This is the first difference you’ll notice. The rocker has the timeless, traditional type of look with (usually) wooden construction that can fit into a vintage interior, while the glider looks more modern. This is really a matter of what you prefer and how you visualized the nursery for your newborn.
The biggest difference between the glider and the rocker is in the motion. A glider slides back and forth in a much smoother and slower motion than rocking chair that sways back and forth as strong as you push away with your toes. So it is really all about what kind of movement you prefer.
If you decide on the glider you should know that there are some gliders with a swivel base that allows you to rotate your chair right or left without leaving it.
If you are choosing by comfort, gliders would be an obvious choice. They are soft, full of little cushions, have really comfortable armrests and a lot of them come with a matching ottoman. On the other hand, if you like the rockers more, you can always buy some nice fluffy cushions to make it more comfortable. Either way, make sure that the height of the chair is adequate for you so that your feet can comfortably touch the ground, otherwise, I won’t be comfortable no matter how many cushions you add to it.
With the variety of different nursery gliders available on the market, it can be real though deciding which one to purchase. Trust me, I know how it is… I’ve spent so many hours helping my cousin to find the perfect one until she finally made the decision.
Comfort, comfort, comfort! Just remember that the main thing you need in the nursery room is the comfort.
I hope this article was helpful and that it will make it easier to decide. If you choose any of the gliders from my top ten list, you won’t regret it, I promise!
Ultimately, let me just congratulate you on your pregnancy! I guess it is really exciting entering into this new chapter of your life.
Good luck and happy gliding!
