1. O-Cedar Microfiber Cloth Mop

O-Cedar Microfiber Cloth Mop

Ranked #1 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 611 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Very light
  • Low price
  • Easy to maintain
  • No streaks
  • Microfiber head
  • Washable

Cons:

  • Head tends to unscrew during mopping
  • If left in the water handle will rust and break
  • Too short handle
  • The bucket has to be bought separately

Editor’s Review:

This is the traditional mop that is low maintenance, and if you don’t care what kind of mop you’ll use, this one will do the job. With a very reasonable price you get a mop head and handle, but you are going to have to buy a bucket separately. It is recommended to buy an O-Cedar Quick Wring Bucket because it fits perfectly with this mop, so that you won’t have spilled water or excess water all over the floor.

It has a microfiber cloth that is washable up to 100 times. If you have kids you’ll understand how important is to have a mop that is easy to take out, and use immediately. Because of the often usage you’ll need to wash it regularly. Microfibers are solid quality. It could happen for some to fall out, but, it won’t affect the quality of mopping. You’ll be able to mop without streaking.

It’s important to rinse and wring it after every use, because it could get rusty and the handle will certainly break. Customers reported that the handle is not so good quality if you leave the mop in the water for a long time. Regarding the mop head, it is replaceable, and it could be bought separately.

The handle is too short. Although on the site it says that it is possible to extend it, customers reported that they didn’t find the way to do it. It’s hard to mop if you have to spend a long time bent over. On the other hand, the handle is very light, so you won’t have pain in the arms after mopping.

After some time it could happen that the plastic head starts to scratch the floor during the mopping. This can be avoided by simply putting fibers under the plastic part of the head. You should be careful when you mop the laminate floor with this mop, because the scratches on the laminate floor cannot be masked.

2. O-Cedar EasyWring Microfiber Spin Mop and Bucket Floor Cleaning System

O-Cedar EasyWring Microfiber Spin Mop and Bucket Floor Cleaning System

Ranked #2 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 5875 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Low price
  • Easy to use
  • Good bucket
  • Telescope hendle
  • Washable head

Cons:

  • Whole handle is spinning when you press the pedal
  • The plastic handle feels flimsy

Editor’s Review:

In the category of spinning mops, this one comes as the most affordable with a solid quality. As the previous mop, this one has the microfiber head too. The plastic part of the head is triangle shaped, so it’s easy to clean even the corners of the rooms.

The handle has the telescope system, and it can extend from 30 to 51 inches. The flaw is that the extended part is plastic and if you fully extend it, it may feel little too flexible and flimsy. It’s easy to extend and collapse, and you won’t have a problem with storing it in a small place. The head of the mop is flexible, and it can rotate 360 degrees. So, you can reach all that corners under the couch or table, and here helps the triangle head too.

O-Cedar EasyWring Microfiber Spin Mopuses microfiber pad. It can be used wet or dry. When you are using it wet, it’s good for tough stains and dirt, but when it’s used dry it is great for dusting, because dust sticks to microfiber. This mop is suitable for all floors, so you don’t have to worry about laminate in your living room, it will work just fine on it. Microfiber head can be removed and washed in the washing machine. This can be done many times, since the pads are not for several uses only.

The bucket has the built-in system for wringing. You activate it with the small pedal which is installed on the bucket. This is specially designed so that you don’t have to use your hands. It made mopping much easier. Depending on how you like to mop your floors, you can control how much water you will release by simply pedal it more if you want it to be drier. The only flaw, if you can call it that, is that the bucket doesn’t have the wheels, so you will have to carry it around the room. But if you are mopping tile floor it won’t be a problem even to pull it, because it won’t leave scratches.

3. Mopnado Stainless Steel Deluxe Rolling Spin Mop with 2 Microfiber Mop Heads

Mopnado Stainless Steel Deluxe Rolling Spin Mop with 2 Microfiber Mop Heads - Lime

Ranked #3 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 4310 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Fairly low price
  • Washable head
  • Lightweight
  • Stainless steel parts
  • Separated bucket for excess water

Cons:

  • Low quality of the mop head
  • Only 2 pads are given with the mop
  • Splashes when you’re wringing it

Editor’s Review:

This mop is so good that you will feel like cleaning tornado passed through your house, hence the Mopnado play of the words. But seriously, this spin mop is great. A little more expensive than O-Cedar model, but with the higher price some features are high quality. For example, the handle is made of stainless steel which makes it more durable and sturdy. Even the extra parts that serve to extend the handle are stainless steel.

The mop head is microfiber, and it is possible to wash it in the washing machine. The head itself is spinning so you can spin it in the water when you rinse it, not just in the dry bin. It also needs to be spun several times if you want it to be drier. So you are cleaning your floors with a cleaner mop. The downside could be the fact that head is not completely flexible, meaning it does not go 360 degrees. So, in some positions, it could be harder to move it across the floor.

The whole product is lightweight and easy to maneuver with. The bucket has the wheels so you can pull it and push it around without any pain or complications. The part of the bucket where the excess water is stored is also stainless steel. It has some flaws such as splash that the spinning mop head is making when you wring it.

The mop doesn’t leave streaks and is perfect for tile floors. Its lime color has the best impact on the overall impression, and kids love it too. It even looks interesting to them, so maybe they will want to help you with cleaning.

The only thing that we saw as a flaw was that the plastic part of the head tends to scratch the floor if the fibers are not put in the right way. This can happen when you mop really fast, or if you lift it very often.

4. Shark Steam Pocket Mop (S3501)

Shark Steam Pocket Mop (S3501)

Ranked #4 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 2933 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Double-sided cleaning pads
  • Fair price
  • Easy to maintein
  • Doesn’t have a cord

Cons:

  • One pad per package
  • Small water tank
  • Needs 30 seconds to heat up

Editor’s Review:

Of all Shark models, we chose this one simply because the price and quality ratio is the best you can find, at least for steam mops. Considering that you could be on a budget here, Shark has some solid models for a fair price.

Steam mops are using steam (heated water) to dissolve stains, grimes, and dust. The microfiber pads are washable. You get only one in the package, but it is usable on both sides. Meaning, when an A side of the pad gets dirty, you just flip it around and use the B side. Pad is rectangle so it can reach even the corners.

When you turn it on it takes about 30 seconds for the water to heat up. Then you start releasing steam by pushing the plastic part of the handle. It could happen that pushing mop on the tiles is hard. Depending on the structure of the tiles it could be difficult for microfiber pad to slide over the floor. But in most cases, this will not be the problem.

As we said earlier, size of the tank is very important, especially if you have a big surface to clean up. This mop has the second biggest water tank, and it could be really helpful knowing that you have to do everything manually. A bigger tank means less work with adding water. But, on the other hand, the steam cannot be turned off when you are moving furniture around, so you are wasting water and even a big tank that contains about 450 ml of water can be spent quickly. And you can’t simply turn it off because the water will get cold again. It is not necessary to use harsh chemicals to get the cleaner floor.

It weighs only 4.9 pounds, so it’s pretty lightweight. The handle is 51 inches tall, which is great because you will not have to bend to mop your floor. The handle sometimes tends to break, but it doesn’t happen that often if it’s not damaged during the delivery. It has the 20ft long cord that helps you move around freely, but frankly, it could be even longer.

It’s not that great with the grout too, because the steam does not get hot enough, and can’t dissolve the dirt from the rough surface such as connections between the tiles.

5. Bissell 1940 PowerFresh Steam Mop Hard Floor Steam Cleaner

BISSELL PowerFresh Steam Mop, Floor Steamer, Tile Cleaner, and Hard Wood Floor Cleaner, 1940

Ranked #5 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 9482 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Very good price
  • Long cord
  • Digital set controls
  • Machine washable pads
  • Spring breeze fragrance discs

Cons:

  • Releases too much water when set on high
  • Pads stay wet after use
  • You must use filtered water

Editor’s Review:

This is one of the best steam cleaners. First, the price is great considering the product you’ll get. If you have pets and kids, you will appreciate all the features that Bissel1940 PowerFreshoffers.

The water tank of this mop is placed on the top of the mop, so it’s easier to refill it. It looks smooth, and you will not notice it on the top. On the middle part of the Bissel is the smart set digital steam controller. It has three controls. The low setting is for some minor stains or “accidents.” Medium and high settings are for deep cleaning of the tiles.

Microfiber pad has a built-in easy scrubber and is perfect for making your tiles shiny and pretty. The pads are machine washable and they last longer than the regular pads. If you want your floors to smell greatBissel 1940 comes with two Spring Breeze fragrance discs. It is great that you have this possibility because you shouldn’t put any chemicals in the water tank. Unfortunately, this model doesn’t have a water filter so the water you put inside the tank should be distilled or filtered.

Be careful when using the High steam program. It can be very hot and very wet in a short time. The steamer starts to release the steam, and if you hold your foot too close you can burn it. So once again, be careful, the tile floors can become slippery because of the excess water. It will dry off eventually, but you’ll have to be careful until you get to know the Bissel better.

The cord is long enough to walk around your house and clean every room you want. It has 23ft and is perfect for big kitchens. Paired with a big water tank, your cleaning will be a delight. The handle can’t stand on its own, so you should leave it leaned on the counter or the wall.

It is recommended to take off microfiber pads after use. The pads cannot dry on its own so it could happen that your utility storage gets wet, and it’s not a big problem if you have a tile floor in there. But if it’s laminate or hardwood floor, it can be a big mess.

6. Hoover FloorMate Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner, FH40160PC – Corded

Hoover FloorMate Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner, FH40160PC - Corded

Ranked #6 by the editor
Amazon rating:
(based on 4276 Reviews reviews)

Pros:

  • Scrub brushes
  • Two water tank
  • Long cord
  • Dry/wet technology

Cons:

  • A bit heavy
  • When full won’t stand on itself
  • A little higher price

Editor’s Review:

If you want to raise your cleaning game on a new level, Hoover FloorMate Deluxe is a right thing for you. It enables you to vacuum, clean, scrub, and mop all in once. If you want your house to look like those in commercials this item is the right choice for you.

Hoover FloorMate has the SpinScrub brushes system which allows it to be more efficient when getting rid of all that dirt. This system is scrubbing your tiles gently, and does not leave scratches on them. It’s also very good on sealed wood and vinyl. It is completely automatic; you just have to push it around your kitchen.

The Dry/Wet system is great if you don’t like any water to stay on your tiles. While your brushes scrub tiles, at the same time they are suctioning the excess water. Dry mode stops the brushes and suction up all the excess water that has left after brushing.

This mop has two water tanks, and it’s the most important feature. One tank holds the clean water which is heated and used to clean floors, and the other is dirty water which has been suctioned through the brushes. The tanks are easy to remove, maybe the only flaw with them is that they don’t have a flat bottom so you can’t leave him standing in the sink and filling with water while you are doing something else. And the handle won’t stand on its own when the tanks are full.

If you think that some stains are impossible to remove, at least not without getting on your knees and scrubbing it with your hands, there is a Clean Boost Control system. It allows you to apply even more detergent if you think that it’s needed.

The FloorMate has the 20ft long cord so there is enough of it to walk wherever you want. But maybe the weight of the machine will be the problem. With 14 pounds it’s not the heaviest model that exists, but it could happen that you get tired after some time of mopping.

On the other hand, this model is easy to put together and get apart when it needs cleaning.

7. Bissell 1132A Symphony All-in-One Vacuum and Steam Mop

No products found.

Ranked #7 by the editor
Amazon rating: No products found.
(based on No products found. reviews)

Pros:

  • Vacuum and mop steam (both products in one)
  • Four microfiber pads
  • Machine washable pads
  • Sanitizes floors
  • 2 years warranty

Cons:

  • Heavy (10 pounds)
  • Expensive
  • Not so great vacuuming and steam mopping at the same time
  • Pads need to be rinsed during continuous mopping

Editor’s Review:

The best product there is if you want an all-in-one technology. Vacuum cleaner sucks in all the larger particles, and the steam mop sanitizes your floor, to the moment it gets squeaky clean. The best part is that you don’t have to buy two products for the same job, with the Bissel Symphony you get all in one. The amount of time that it saves for you is tremendous.

Scrubbing is pretty hard because it has to be done with a lot of pushing and rubbing. But Bissel gives you four microfiber pads for this job. The two of them are for scrubbing, and the other two are soft, for cleaner and smoother look of your floors. All of them are washable in the washing machine. If you have a larger room, you’ll have to rinse the padstwo or three times during the steam mopping.

If you have a back pain, the great thing is that this model has an adjustable handle. The controls for a steam and vacuum cleaner are positioned high on the handle so that it’s easier to turn it on or off. Bissell Symphony has two options for steam control: high and low.

Although it says that vacuuming and cleaning with steam is possible at the same time, we wouldn’t recommend it. The vacuum cleaner works great when you are only vacuuming. But as soon as you turn on steamer the strength of the suctioning weakens and it will just do the poor job with vacuuming. So it’s better to vacuum first and then later steam clean the floor. If you are afraid of leaving your floors wet, do it partially. For example, when you mop a third of the kitchen floor, turn on the vacuum and dry the excess water.

Bissel claims that this product completely sanitizes your floors if used properly. So be sure to read the instruction manual, and do as it says for the best results of your cleaning.

For a longer use, we recommend that you use filtered or distilled water. If you are using tap water, it can build up calcium deposits on the inner parts which can lead to suffocating the machine.

This model can be used on the carpets too, but it’s not made for that kind of cleaning. Don’t force it, just vacuum and freshen up with a steamer. But certainly, don’t try to vacuum and steam mop at the same time.

Bissel Symphony is an expensive item, and for that price you would expect it to work by itself, making your house look like heaven. But the sad truth is that you have to clean the vacuum itself regularly, to clean the filters, and wash the water tank because of the dust and really small particles that can clog the whole system.

How to Choose the Best Mop For Your Tiles - Buyer's Guide

If you want to have the best experience with your mopping, there are few things that you should consider. Especially if you are buying a mop for tile floors, meaning you will use it almost every day, and you will want it to last you a long time.

Microfiber cloths or pads are in this case much better. Dirt and dust stick to it, and won’t fall off no matter how long you mop around. Cotton pads are, on the other hand, easier to maintain, meaning you can wash it in the washing machine all you want. Often, the manufacturer puts a recommended number of washings before you should buy a new one. Microfiber pads or cloths are washable too, but much less than the cotton pads. Cotton cloths are more frequently used on traditional mops. But in the past few years, they are rarely used on any kind of mops.

These kinds of mops are similar to traditional mops, but instead of cloths they have disposable pads. Often they come with both kinds of pads. First, you will mop the floor with the dry pad which is great for grout and stains, and then you will use the wet pads which will break down dust, dirt, and the liquids.

If you don’t care what kind of mop you will use as long as it does its job, the traditional mop is your choice for sure. The traditional mops are the most affordable version, and will do what it needs to do. When buying a traditional mop the only thing that you should look for is a mop head. Many of them are low quality, and being wet all the time can cause them to rust, and break after some time. Also, it’s important to have an easy put-on system, because you will not want to be bothered with complications such as mop head.

This feature is especially important when it comes to electric steam mops. With water tank, little motor, steamer etc., these mop can be very heavy, and after some time of pushing it aroundyou will get tired. Even more crucial feature is the height of the mop. You won’t be very happy if you realize that you bought short mop that doesn’t have an option for adjusting the height. After cleaning all day, your back will hurt, and in one moment you will probably start to feel too tired for mopping around, even if you’re using an electric steam mop. Many mops, traditional and steam, have an adjustable handle, but anyway you should read the product description and measure your height.

If you are buying a steam mop you should definitely consider water tank size. Depending on how big it is you will have to refill it more often. If you have a big surface to clean then the big tank is recommended, because refilling takes time considering that you have to take the tank off, fill it with water and put it back on. Not every tank has an easy put-on system and managing to put it on can be a real pain in the back.

Of course, the most important feature is the price. It can range from 15 to 30 bucks (for a traditional mop), and up to 180$ for a steam mop. There are more reasonable prices in between, but you should try to find the best ratio between price and quality. Bear in mind that the higher price does not always mean the better quality. So, do your research and try to take into account that this is long term investment.

What Types of Mops Exist?

Depending on the surface there are best mops for tile floors, for laminate, for vinyl and, of course, for hardwood floors. Every one of them has its benefits and flaws, but if you want durability and longevity, tile floors are the best. Especially in the kitchen and bathrooms where moisture is always present, and there is a high possibility of spilling something that is hard to clean up.

Mops for tiles are specially designed for easier use, because both of these rooms need to be very clean. In the bathroom, we maintain our personal hygiene, and in the kitchen, we make and eat food. Therefore you will probably clean them every day, and you will need a mop that is strong enough to endure everyday cleaning.

There are four kinds of mops for tile floors that are more or less affordable for house cleaning.

1. The traditional mop is the one with the round head and this mop is generally easy to maintain. It consists only of microfiber head and the handle. The bucket for water is sold separately almost always. This is the simplest mop you can find. Learning to use it takes only one mopping and it’s the cheapest version. This is the most manual version of mops.

2. The spin mop is almost the same but with the head that is automatically spun and, therefore, you don’t have to press and pull and twist to get rid of the excess water. Some versions of this mop have the spinning head. And some of them have to be lightly held because the whole handle spins when you press the pedal. It comes with the bucket, which has the pedal that rotates the pad (or the whole mop).

3. Steam mop, as the name says for itself, uses steam, and is specialized for killing germs with heat. Some of thebetter models are designed so that you can use it right after turning it on, and others need some time (about 30 seconds) to produce the steam. Also, the thing that differentiatesthe steam mops is the fact that they are using electricity to move around and spread steam, or if everything that is done, is done manually.

4. The scrub mop is the one that moms love to use on hard stains left on the kitchen floor by their kids. This mop uses scrub brushes that removes even the most stubborn stains. Steam, in combination with detergent, is released and the brushes do the rest of the work.

Customer's Opinions - See What Other Users Say:

Considering the fact that it costs only 15$it does a great job! Of course, there is always place for improvement, but if you want your floors to be effectively mopped then this is the right thing. I thought of maybe buying more expensive mop, or even steam mop, but then I realized that I have very small place and that steam mop will probably take a lot of room in my utility place. On the other hand I have a small kitchen and bathroom, and live alone. It’s not necessary to have so advanced mop in my apartment. I read some reviews saying that the handle is badly designed and low quality. I didn’t find it so bad, but I don’t mop every day so maybe that’s why my mop lasted longer. All in all, for a small house and needs this mop is great, and I’ll probably buy another one just in case they are out of stock in the future!

I read a lot of reviews for a lot of mops and I find it useful. But reading review is nothing compared to using a mop in your own house. This mop improved my cleaning and my life, after all! I have two small children and a dog. They are all evenly messy and unable to clean after themselves. So often, when they spill something on the kitchen floor they try to hide it from me by not telling me about it. These kinds of stains are the worst! But with Shark steam Pocket mop it became so much easier to clean. It works wonders on my kitchen floor, and saves so much time for other chores. And a double-sided microfiber pads are wonderful to use. I don’t have to change it and wash it during the mopping. I recommend it to every mom who has kids and pets. It’s a life changer!

Conclusion

Mops are items for everyday use. You need one in your house especially if you have tile floors. Simply vacuuming tiles won’t do the job, and dirt will stick around. Grout is really hard to clean, and unless you go all hands and knees, it won’t be done the right way. That’s why there are steam mops that do the God’s work with it.

No matter how often you clean your house, having a good mop in your utility storage is always a good idea. It comes handy when kids or pets come from the outside and make a mess in maybe 30 seconds. And that’s exactly how much time it will take for you to mop it behind them.

Don’t hesitate and buy a good mop today! Happy cleaning!
